The International Space Station (ISS) is a giant laboratory orbiting Earth at an altitude of around 400 kilometers, traveling at a speed of over 28,000 kilometers per hour. It’s a joint project between NASA, Roscosmos, ESA, JAXA, and CSA, serving as a symbol of international cooperation in science and space exploration. About the size of a football field, the ISS provides a unique microgravity environment where astronauts conduct experiments in biology, physics, astronomy, and technology that wouldn’t be possible on Earth. Visible from the ground as a bright moving point of light, the ISS has been continuously inhabited since November 2000, marking one of humanity’s most significant and sustained presences in space.
